Calise & Sons Bakery has reduced their conveyor belt cleaning time from 120 hours to 6 hours thanks to the PureBelt® cleaning system and the GVC-18000 steam cleaner. Find out how the innovative technology drastically reduces working time and increases efficiency.
The challenge:
The Rhode Island plant has multiple conveyors for baking, cooling and glazing. The streamlined conveyor belt system snakes throughout the facility, including sections suspended from the ceiling that carry goods into the numerous spiral coolers, which are nearly 20 feet high. Cleaning the belts on a weekly basis required multiple employees, from members of the sanitation team to mechanics, as they removed, cleaned and reinstalled the various sections of conveyor belts. Cleaning the entire conveyor belt system, which is divided into 18 sections, was estimated to take around 2 hours per section for 2 to 4 employees per section. That's 120 working hours for cleaning the conveyor belts.
The solution:
Working with one of the experts from the Goodway team, the perfect solution was found during an on-site demonstration. They decided on a GVC-18000 dry steam cleaner and the PureBelt Modular belt cleaning system. They agreed that using an automated clean-in-place solution that harnessed the cleaning power of dry steam would deliver the required remediation results, significantly reduce wastewater and save the majority of labor hours previously required.
The result:
It used to take 120 working hours to clean the entire conveyor belt system properly. Today, the labor required is only about 6 hours and the total cleaning time is about 20 hours. A 95% labor/time saving when cleaning your belts. As a bonus, the GVC-18000 dry steam cleaner has been used to clean the slicer and other hard-to-reach areas. What used to take between 1 and 3 hours is now done in 30 minutes.
Product used: High-performance dry steam cleaner with two boilers - GVC-18000-480
A popular product for cleaning and disinfecting production areas in food, beverage and manufacturing plants. For removing soiling, bacteria and allergens from conveyor belts, sorting machines, packaging systems, gears and chains as well as all production areas. The GVC-18000 is a commercial, three-phase dry steam cleaner that is compact, maneuverable and very powerful.
What is dry steam? Dry steam is regular steam that has been superheated and provides all the cleaning and sanitizing performance of steam, but with much less moisture (adjustable 5-15% moisture level). Dry steam can be safely used in dry-cleaned environments or in areas where wet cleaning is not recommended.
Use for:
Cleaning surfaces in production systems such as belts, packaging machines, sorting systems, belt mechanisms, final cleaning of parts and many other surfaces.
Removal of coarse soiling, oil and for allergen control
Also designed for use with Goodway conveyor belt cleaning systems for flat and modular belts.
Two stainless steel boilers heat tap water from a 10.4-gallon tank and continuously generate dry steam with a variable output pressure of 0-145 PSI and an output temperature of 290°F. It destroys oils, dirt, allergens (like nuts and sesame seeds) and bacteria on contact.
